Profitability Calculator
Model the economics of a combined tabletop air polishing unit across 8 markets: five units, three scenarios and fully adjustable assumptions. Device and powder prices come from public EU distributor listings (October 2026); everything else is an editable estimate.

Assumptions used in this calculation
All figures ex-VAT where applicable. Clinic real cost for equipment, powders and maintenance is shown VAT-loaded because dental services are VAT-exempt and input VAT is not recoverable in most modelled markets. Prices checked on 8 October 2026; other defaults are estimates. Your clinic's actuals may vary — use the Fine-tune panel to model your own figures.
- What the results describe. The figures are for a whole hygiene chair: revenue from every prophylaxis session, minus the hygienist's employment cost, chair overheads, powder, device depreciation and maintenance. They do not isolate the extra revenue a particular device brings in, so “chair profit ÷ device cost” is not a return on the device alone.
- Device prices are the lowest public ex-VAT listings we found for the base configuration: Mectron Combi Touch Perio €6,190 and NSK Varios Combi Pro2 basic set €5,833 (Dentaltix, French store); Woodpecker PT-E €6,399 (Esadental, Italy). EMS does not have a public price at the distributors we checked, so the EMS units ask for the price from your own quote.
- Powder prices are public ex-VAT listings at Dentaltix (French store): EMS AIRFLOW PLUS €89.00 per 400 g; Mectron Sensitive glycine €65.00 per 2 × 160 g; NSK FLASH pearl €83.33 per 4 × 300 g; Woodpecker Gentle glycine €14.80 per 120 g.
- Powder used per appointment is set to the same 10 g for every device. Manufacturers do not publish per-treatment figures. The only measurement we found, a laboratory study funded by EMS (Donnet et al., Applied Sciences 2021), reported 1.0–2.9 g per minute for three combined tabletop units in subgingival mode, or roughly 10–29 g for the 10-minute full-mouth treatment the authors assumed; 10 g is at the low end of that range. Change it in “Fine-tune values” to match your own records.
- Maintenance (€1,000 a year) and device life (5 years, straight-line) are the same for every device. Session prices, salaries, overheads, appointments and working days are editable country estimates, not survey data.
