EMS AIRFLOW Handy 3.0 / Handy 3.0 PLUS

EMS's portable air-polishing handpiece. It connects to the turbine coupling of the dental unit and runs on the unit's air and water, with no separate console. EMS offers a Classic handpiece for supragingival work (AIRFLOW COMFORT and SOFT powders) and a PLUS handpiece, used with AIRFLOW PLUS powder, for the whole visible tooth surface and periodontal pockets up to 4 mm. Refilling uses EMS's EASY-FILL system.

Who it may suit

  • Practices that want EMS air polishing at the lowest hardware cost, using the air and water already on the dental unit.
  • Hygiene rooms with several chairs that want a handpiece per room rather than one console.
  • Teams working to the EMS GBT protocol who need the PLUS handpiece for pockets up to 4 mm (EMS's figure).
  • It may be less suited to practices that want heated water, a separate control panel or deeper-pocket handpieces: those are features of tabletop units such as the AIRFLOW One.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with my dental unit?

EMS says it fits all common turbine connections. Confirm the exact coupling (KaVo MULTIflex, Sirona, W&H, NSK and others) with the supplier before ordering. [1]

What is the difference between Classic and PLUS?

Classic is for supragingival work with COMFORT and SOFT powders; PLUS adds periodontal pockets up to 4 mm with AIRFLOW PLUS powder (EMS). [1]

Does it need a separate power supply?

No: it runs on the dental unit's air and water at the pressures above. [2] [3]

How often can the handpiece be sterilized?

EMS gives a validated life of 800 cycles in the manual; confirm for the current PLUS handpiece. [3]

What we could not verify

  • Heating, adjustable water temperature, nozzle angles and the exact coupling brands included in each package: not stated in the documents we reviewed.
  • PLUS-handpiece coupling variants: confirm with the supplier.
  • The manual we read is the 2013 edition (FB-568), which predates the PLUS handpiece naming: confirm PLUS values with EMS.
