KaVo PROPHYflex 4
KaVo's air-polishing handpiece for the dental unit. It attaches to a KaVo MULTIflex (LUX) or MULTIflex LED coupling (KaVo's page also names the Sirona click'n go coupling) and runs on the unit's air and water. KaVo positions it for supra- and subgingival work: a standard cannula with three powder-quantity levels, and an optional Perio Kit (slim perio tip with depth markings and glycine Perio Powder) for pockets and implants.

Who it may suit
- Practices whose dental units already have KaVo MULTIflex couplings, since no adapter is needed.
- Hygiene rooms that want one handpiece for routine polishing and, with the Perio Kit, subgingival and implant-surface work.
- Teams that want to choose powder chemistry per patient (sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate or glycine) within one brand's powders.
- It may be less suited to practices without a KaVo or Sirona coupling (check adapters with the supplier) or to those who want heated water or a console with pedal-controlled pressure.

Frequently asked questions
Which couplings does it fit?
KaVo's IFU says all MULTIflex (LUX) and MULTIflex LED couplings; KaVo's page also names Sirona click'n go. For other couplings, ask the supplier about adapters. [1] [2]
Can it be used subgingivally?
With the optional Perio Kit (perio tip) and Perio Powder (glycine); the standard cannula with calcium carbonate or bicarbonate is for supragingival use per KaVo's powder guidance. The clinician decides the case. [1] [2]
Can I use another brand's powder?
KaVo's IFU says to use only original KaVo powders. [1]
Is it autoclavable?
Steam sterilizable at 134 °C according to the IFU; follow the reprocessing instructions. [1]
What we could not verify
- Weight and handpiece dimensions: not stated in the documents reviewed ("lightweight" per KaVo).
- The IFU we read is the 2018 edition, in German, hosted by a distributor; an up-to-date English IFU was not found.
- What the "S" versions are, and whether the Sirona coupling needs an adapter: confirm with KaVo or the supplier.
