Summary
The Cavitron Plus Ultrasonic Scaling System with Tap-On Technology is Dentsply Sirona's tabletop magnetostrictive scaler. The IFU describes 30,000 strokes per second, a Tap-On wireless foot pedal, Turbo mode (up to 25% more power), an extended low-power range (Blue Zone), a detachable sterilizable Steri-Mate handpiece, an illuminated display, lavage control on the handpiece and a 2-minute Purge function. It is a scaler only: for air polishing use a separate device or the Cavitron Jet Plus.
Who it may suit
- Hygienists trained on magnetostrictive technique and practices that already use Cavitron 30K inserts.
- Practices that want a dedicated scaler and will pair it with a separate air polisher.
It may be less suited to practices that want scaling and air polishing in one console, whose team is trained on piezoelectric tips, or that plan to use non-Cavitron inserts (see the warranty conditions below).
Indications and contraindications (IFU)
Indications: all general supra- and subgingival scaling applications; periodontal debridement for all types of periodontal disease; endodontic procedures. Contraindication stated: ultrasonic systems should not be used for restorative dental procedures involving the condensation of amalgam. The IFU also says that for best performance only Dentsply Sirona inserts should be used. Warnings worth knowing: high-volume evacuation is highly recommended; persons with cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators or other active implanted devices should be cautioned, with the IFU recommending that the handpiece and cables be kept 6 to 9 inches away during use and the patient's physician consulted. Insert and kit contents vary by package: confirm with the supplier.
Warranty conditions (Dentsply Sirona warranty statement in the IFU)
Warranty extends to products bought from an authorized Dentsply Sirona dealer and only to the original purchaser. Conditions include installation and routine servicing by Dentsply Sirona or authorized dealer service personnel, warranty repairs by Dentsply Sirona Technical Support Service, and no abuse or improper cleaning. Use of inserts other than Cavitron voids the warranty on Cavitron ultrasonic scalers, and warranty is not honored for inserts used in units other than Cavitron units. For the Jet Plus and Prophy-Jet air polishing systems, use of an air polishing powder other than Cavitron prophy powders voids their warranties.
