Short answer
Both are combined tabletop units (piezo scaler plus powder air polisher with heated water), both FDA-cleared as class II ultrasonic scalers and licensed in Canada. On published data:
- The Combi Touch is longer and heavier (410 mm, 4.8 kg), has the broader published supply data and a wider scaler frequency scan (24-36 kHz), two removable powder containers and a glass touchscreen, and runs on 100-240 V. Mectron specifies intermittent duty (55 s on / 30 s off with irrigation).
- The Varios Combi Pro2 is more compact (249 x 290 x 215 mm, 3.5 kg), lists a higher maximum scaler output (11 W) and a wireless foot control, but is 100-120 V in the U.S. and NSK USA's page does not publish water or air supply pressures.
Neither is "better" on every point; supply data, power, bench space, tip and powder ecosystems and local service usually decide it. Prices: price on request.

A 510(k) is a finding of substantial equivalence, not an FDA approval. The Combi Pro2 clearance is recent (March 2026), the Combi Touch's is from 2023: both are current records, but ask the supplier to confirm each covers the kit you are quoted.

What each choice means in practice
- Bench space and moving the unit: the Combi Pro2 is about 120 mm shorter in its longest dimension (290 vs 410 mm) and 1.3 kg lighter on paper.
- Power at the outlet: the Combi Pro2 U.S. model is rated 100-120 V; the Combi Touch manual lists 100-240 V.
- Installation data: the Combi Touch publishes water and air ranges; for the Combi Pro2, ask NSK or the supplier before your installer plans the chair-side connections.
- Powders and warranty: Mectron states that non-original powders void its warranty (Mectron clinical protocol; confirm the wording). For NSK, ask in writing which powders are covered.
- Subgingival air polishing: each maker labels its own Perio handpiece and tips. Check each IFU for pocket depths and powders; the clinician decides the case.
- Reprocessing: CDC says removable handpieces and attachments must be cleaned and heat sterilized between patients following validated manufacturer instructions. Ask each supplier for the validated cycle counts.

- Does the FDA clearance and Health Canada licence cover the exact kit (standard vs Perio set; Basic Set plus Prophy and Perio kits)?
- What water and air pressure and flow does it need, in psi, and which voltage version is quoted?
- Which powders are in the quote and does using other powders affect the warranty?
- What is the warranty, service turnaround and loan-unit policy in my state or province?
- What does each extra handpiece, insert and perio tip pack cost?
